The title of Adjunct Professor was recently conferred on Dr Dirk Roux, a Research Associate at NMMU’s George Campus and Senior SANParks Scientist. Prof Roux is here seen doing what he does best - explaining to students how complex systems work.
According to NMMU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Derrick Swartz, who conferred the title, it is in recognition of Dr Roux’s “intellectual and scholarly accomplishments…in advancing the goals of a sustainable world”. The level of distinction associated with the title is similar to that of Professor and is reserved for a handful of top Research Associates of the university. It is an honour for the Science Faculty and the Sustainability Research Unit to be associated with a scholar of this stature.
Professor Roux, along with several other SANParks researchers, is based at the NMMU George Campus as part of a Memorandum of Understanding between NMMU and SANParks. A B-rated scientist, he has a distinguished research track record with SANParks, Monash University and CSIR and serves on numerous editorial committees and high-level scientific advisory boards.
